How was your ANZAC day?

ANZAC Day is a very special day to Australians. It’s a public holiday. The letters stand for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
Australian soldiers are called diggers. Probably this name comes from what did they do in the WW1.
Simpson is one of heroes in the WW1.He and his donkey saved a lot of soldiers on the Front Line.
He calls his partner “Duffy”. Isn’t it a lovely name? Defence Force fought for their countries. Many people are wounded and killed in the times of war. “Defend” means “to keep safe” and the people in the Australian Defence Force keep our country safe and protect us.
On ANZAC Day we show our thanks to the people who have fought for our country. It is such a special day it has been made a holiday so families can go to the march in their towns. We can wear ANZAC badge and wave Australian flags to show how proud we are.
Traditionally there are ceremonies at the site of the war memorials. A war memorial is a place that honours all those who have died in wars. Special Ode will be read during it. The Ode is part of a special poem that is said during the ANZAC Day service. The word we should say after the Ode is “Lest We Forget”. Flowers and wreaths of red poppies are laid at the bottom of war memorials as a way of saying we have remembered these brave people.

The tasty food: stiky rice cake

G'day classmat!
Did you hear about rice cake? it's traditional snack in Spring festval in China. I'm fond of that.
We'll got a class party tomorrow and I'll bring some rice cake I made. I'm not good at it, but I've made that before and practiced for a few times so as to make perfect one for you, my dear mates.
Do you know why we chinese have rice cake at the turn of the year? The answer is below.
One popular dessert eaten during Chinese New Years is Nian Gao (年糕). One of the reasons it's eaten during this time is because the words "nian gao (粘糕)", meaning "sticky cake," sounds just like the words 年高, which means something along the lines of "growing taller every year." Similar to "a pinch to grow an inch," this is just used to wish the person good health in the new year.
In a word, hope you try and enjoy it at the grand party.

Harmony Day

Harmony Day in ST TAFE

Do you know Harmony Day? I didn't before I went to the meeting. It is a good idea to build a peaceful community.
Many student and teachers went to the building A at that day. Some of the student made a speech. They said they come from all over the world and got to know each other. They make friends and get along very well. Enjoying their multicultural environment.
Then, some students played some instrument and sang songs.
At the end of it we all stood up singing national song together.
Some finger food, fruit and drink were prepared for us, such as cake, biscuit, noodle, salad and so on. we were chatting while having them. We say: Harmony Day belongs everyone! Harmony Day is forever!
What a harmony time!

SUPERSTITIONS IN CHINESE CUSTOM

No matter whether do you believe, there are some superstitions in our daily life. Most people consider that hair can't be cut in Chinese January, if someone did , his uncle would suffer bad things. So many people have their hair cut before Chinese new year eve and do nothing with their hair in first month period. The barber in china must have a leisure time.
Another one is about sneeze. If sneeze once, it means somebody is missing you. If twice, it means somebody is blaming you behind. what about three or more? nothing to mean but you
are catching cold. Sometimes it works, But it is use to joke people nowadays.

My name is Wayne. I come from Beijing , China. I've been in Australia for 1.5 years. I came to Sydney in 2007 and living Hurstville suburb now. Here is quite different from Bejing. I love the nature of here. Such as National Park and beach. I've developed a taste of Western food since I came here. I eat much more bread, beef and cheese than I used to do in Beijing.
